Thus far into our AWOL trip addressing homelessness in SLC, we have completed 27 hours of community service. Today, March 11th, we added eight hours to that total. Our day began with a few hours working on a Habitat for Humanity home– the contractor and family were very grateful for our help. Next, we toured the Volunteers for American adult detox center. Our eyes were opened to the challenges that substance abuse adds to chronic homelessness. To end our day we packaged more than 2000 meals at the Utah Food Bank. These meals will be donated through the Kids Cafe program and are intended to provide impoverished school-age children with food on the weekends. #GOAWOL
