This morning we strapped on our tool belts with our nails, hammers, and tape measures to work for the local Habit for Humanity. Brandon, the on-site manager, had an inspiring story to share and had his hands full with us. By the end of the day we were all pounding nails, cutting boards, and making a difference in the life of the family we were assisting. We found those in need do not always come in the packages one might expect. After getting our hands dirty with Habitat, we traveled to Family Promise, an organization that is dedicated to housing families that are living on the streets. Our responsibility was to clean the playground and the front lawn to create a safe and clean environment for the kids visiting there. The people were genuinely grateful for our service, even though we felt we did something so small. Today provided great opportunities to learn about homelessness and we became much more aware of the constant battle undergone by thousands of Utahans, as well as Americans in general, every day.
